61st Year of Tabor Czech Days
June 18-20, 2009

VÍTÁME VÁS
The two words are synonymous with fun, music, entertainment, dancing and traditional Czech foods. The celebration has kept alive the heritage of the early founders of the little South Dakota community who came to Tabor from Czechoslovakia as early as 1869. What started out to be a small community event has grown into an attraction that draws people each year, as many as 10,000 to Czech Days, an ethnic celebration.

Czech Days as become so popular and well attended that it is now listed as one of the four 2008 Great Events selected by the South Dakota Office of Tourism and one of the "Top 20" June attractions in the nation according to AAA Travel magazine.

VISITOR APPEAL
• Thousands of kolaces, the tasty Czech pastry, are consumed by visitors each year. Few go home without taking a dozen or two with them.
• The traditional Czech dance, "The Beseda", is performed by 200 dancers, young and old alike. The dancers dress in colorful Czech costumes, similar to how their relatives from the Czech Republic and Slovakia might have dressed.
• Saturday afternoon Polka Mass at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. The Mass features area singers and musicians performing traditional Czech music and songs.
• Czech gifts including recipe books, CDs, cassette tapes, clothing items, imported Czech merchandise and other souvenirs are for sale at the Gift & Information Center.
• Kolace and roll-baking demonstrations are available.
• You'll hear plenty of toe-tapping polka music played throughout the celebration. The local pubs often hire special bands to provide live music for their customers during the celebration, and public dances - with a polka band included - take place each evening.
• Giant parade held on Friday. A parade free of rain has the blessing of the weatherman most years. The Kiddie Parade takes place Saturday morning with many children dressed in their Czech costumes.
• Mini Quilt and Wall Hanging competition at Quilter's Quarters on Lidice Street. All entrants welcome. Contact Sue at: quiltersquarters@hcinet.net
• Authentic Czech Pioneer Village - Vancura Park Village consists of a chapel, jail, store, log school and log house "Chalupa". Homemade noodles and old world Czech music tapes are available for sale in the store during Czech Days. The new Heritage Museum welcomes visitors to many new exhibits.
• Blachnik Museum - Adjacent to Vancura Park on the east side of the alley. Unique handmade items of the late Emil Blachnik.
