Winter Fun

Each season has something to offer in Southeast South Dakota, and winter is no different. A variety of activities allow you to appreciate and experience the spectacular beauty of winter.
Outdoor activities include:
Downhill Skiing
Cross-country Skiing
Tubing
Snowmobiling
Ice fishing

Several State Parks provide trails for cross-country skiing or snowmobiling.
Cross-country ski trails can be found at Adam's Homestead & Nature Preserve near North Sioux City, Big Sioux Recreation Area near Brandon, Lake Herman State Park near Madison, and Newton Hills State Park near Canton.
Snowmobile trails are available at Big Sioux Recreation Area near Brandon and Lewis & Clark Recreation Area near Yankton.
The Siouxland Trails offer 126 miles of snowmobile trails around the region to Sioux Falls, Dell Rapids, Renner, Coleman, Madison and Harford. For in-season on trail conditions, call the SnoWats number: 1-800-445-3474. On-line: www.sdgfp.info/Parks

Great Bear Recreation Park, near Sioux Falls, offers winter activities for all ages, including downhill ski slopes, cross country ski trails, snowboarding and tubing. They also provide equipment rental.
