Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve (1,500 acres), is located 2 miles SW of McCook, exit 4 off I-29, along the Missouri River.
It was donated by the Adams sisters (granddaughters of original homesteader Stephen Searl Adams) as a "place for inner renewal".
The nature preserve includes wildlife observation blinds and a chance to view native plant species and one of the oldest cottonwood groves in South Dakota. A trail meanders through a century old homestead including home, barns, church and school house. Guided golf cart tours available by reservation for visitors with physical limitations. (605) 232-0873
Special features: Several restored historical buildings, visitor center, wildlife viewing blinds, picnic shelter. Cross-country ski rentals.
Trails: Ten miles of biking and hiking trails. Cross Country skiing.
