Lake Herman State Park, (227 acres), located 2 miles west of Madison off SD 34, is popular among fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. The park is located on a peninsula and offers visitors spectacular views of the lake.
Special features: Historic 1871 cabin (National Historic Structure) and cemetery, disc golf course, horseshoe pits, canoe/kayak rental, paddleboard rental, bird watching, park programs.
Trails: Easy hiking trails in the summer which lead through grass prairie, wetlands and historic sites. In the winter you will find five miles of cross country skiing trails.
Facilities: 72 total campsites - 69 electrical, 2 camping cabins (1 handicap accessible), showers, dump station, playground, handicap accessible fishing dock, boat ramp, swimming beach & bath house, ski beach, picnic shelters, cross-country ski trails, fishing pole checkout, game/equipment checkout, handicap access. Entrance fee.
