Rural Experience

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and experience all of the rural charm that Southeast South Dakota has to offer. Rural B&Bs & Lodges offer a peaceful setting where you can really get away from it all. Spend a day exploring museums that showcase our rich agricultural heritage, such as the Heritage Hall Museum in Freeman, Adams Homestead near North Sioux City, or the Campbell Straw Built Museum in Carthage. For some real outdoor fun in the country for the whole family, try finding your way through the Heartland Country Corn Maze near Harrisburg. A number of festivals throughout the year feature demonstrations that show how things were done down on the farm in the good ol' days: including the Prairie Village Threshing Jamboree in Madison, the Pioneer Power Show in Menno, Homesteader Day near Brandon, and others. Find more ideas below as you plan your own rural experience.
