Harvest Time: the Old-Fashioned Way

    Take a trip back to the days of threshing bees, steam power and horse power (the four legged kind). Several Southeast South Dakota communities pay tribute to this way of life every year at these festivals. Come experience the good old days and have some old-fashioned fun. You’ll find something for the whole family to enjoy.

August 27-30
Steam Threshing Jamboree
Prairie Village, Madison SD

    This marks the 53rd year of the Jamboree and this year Ford-Ferguson tractors, trucks and cars are featured. The 3-day event also offers:

  • Parades
  • Huge Flea Market
  • Over 700 Antique Tractors and Antique Car Show
  • Steam-powered and Horse-drawn threshing
  • Saw Mill and Machinery Demos
  • Tractor Pulls
  • Railroad Roundhouse and Turntable Demos
  • Train Rides and Dinner Train on Friday & Saturday serving a four course meal
  • Carousel Rides on the 1893 Steam-powered Carousel
  • Musical Entertainment in the Lawrence Welk Opera House
  • Community Church Service in the Opera House on Sunday Morning
  • Food and much more

    While you’re there for the Jamboree, be sure to visit the 40 antique filled buildings that recreate a turn of the century main street. Camping is available on the grounds.

September 12-13 - Old Time Harvest Festival & Kuchen Festival
Delmont SD

    It’s great to see that these festivals will take place this year after Delmont suffered a devastating tornado this spring. It shows the perseverance and tenacity of the people of Delmont.
    This is the 12th year for the Harvest Festival and it features John Deere tractors and machinery. Harvest Festival events take place on the west edge of Delmont. Events include:

  • Parades
  • Tractor pulls and Kids' Pedal Tractor Pull
  • Farm Demonstrations
  • Old-time Music Jam Sessions and SD Old Time Fiddlers
  • 4th Infantry Cannon Demonstration
  • Flea Market
  • Kids Rides
  • Food: Including a BBQ Pork Supper, Chislic and more

    The 19th Annual Kuchen Festival will also be held on Delmont’s Main Street on Sept. 12, featuring:

  • Kuchen (what else?!) - all your favorite flavors by the pan
  • Parade
  • Arts and Crafts Show & Sale and Quilt Show
  • German-style Lunch featuring Bratwurst from the Bluebird Locker and, naturally, kuchen for dessert
  • Pumphouse Museum - new exhibits

September 13 - Homesteader Day Celebration
Beaver Creek Nature Area, Brandon SD

    This will be the 37th year for Homesteader Day at Beaver Creek. The historic Samuelson Homestead Cabin makes a perfect backdrop for the old-timey celebration featuring:

  • Dutch Oven Cooking
  • Civil War Re-enactors
  • Old-Time Fiddlers
  • Spinning and Dyeing

    Menno’s 29th Annual Pioneer Power Show will feature Case tractors, Case vehicles and Fairbanks-Morse engines. Other features include:
