8 Spooktacular Halloween Events

Halloween is just around the corner! These frightfully fun events throughout Southeast South Dakota will get you in the mood! From haunted mazes and tours to hikes and hands-on activities, you'll find both scary and non-scary events to suit your family's tastes. Costumes are optional, but usually encouraged at most events (because it's just more fun when you dress up!) For a full list events and details, please visit here.

October 14-15: Spooky Science 2016 - Kirby Science Discovery Center, Washington Pavilion, Sioux Falls
Kids of all ages will explore the marvels of space, experiment, discover and create through hands-on activities. Spooky Science favorites will return including slime, candy and the South Dakota State University SciSquad. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

October 15: Halloween Howdy Hike - The Outdoor Campus, Sioux Falls
This year's hike is sure to put a BOO in your boots and trigger your inner outlaw! This non-scary hike is free and fun for the whole family. Make s'mores around the campfire! Costumes are welcome and encouraged.

October 21-22 & 28-29: Haunted Corn Maze - Ufford Hills Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze, Vermillion

October 24, 25 & 27: Yankton Haunted History Tour - Hosted by the Dakota Territorial Museum, Yankton
Learn the ghostly history of Yankton College, the Dakota Theatre, the Coulson House and others.

October 28-29: Yankton Harvest Halloween - Downtown Yankton
This family fun event features harvest themed activities for children, arts & crafts fair & farmer's market, music, Monster Paws dog walk, waffle breakfast, chili feed, even Pig Races! See what lurks on the historic Meridian Bridge, maybe catch the classic film at the Dakota Theatre...and after dark join in the Zombie Walk Pub Crawl. Later the ghouls gather for a haunting good time with Dueling Bands! Dance the night away until midnight in your best costume!

October 28-29: Haunted Corn Maze - Heartland Country Corn Maze, Harrisburg
You never know what is lurking around the next bend of the maze! Be prepared. Bring a flashlight!

October 28-30: ZooBoo - Great Plains Zoo, Sioux Falls
ZooBoo is a three-night Halloween extravaganza! Kids wind their way through decorated exhibits and walkways collecting candy and trinkets from costumed presenters. Along the path of over 300 hand-carved and lit Jack-o'-lanterns, visitors pass the Extinct Species Graveyard and see markers for animals like the Dodo Bird and Caspian Tiger. Other highlights include the Creepy Carousel and the "Hall of Flames".

October 29: Trick or Treat Trails - Big Sioux Recreation Area, Brandon
Dress in your favorite costume and head over to Big Sioux Recreation Area to trick or treat along the decorated path. Bring a flashlight for an extra treat of finding the hidden reflective signs along the trail. Great for the whole family!
